Timber Tramway

Alexandra Timber Tramway is a tourist railway and museum situated in the north central Victoria.  There you can see a recreation of the bush sawmill and tramway era of the Rubicon forest from 1900 to 1950. The Timber Tramway is totally run by volunteers and has been around since the early 1970’s.  First incorporated as a not-for-profit association in 1985, they are now one of seventeen Tourist Railway groups in Victoria accredited through Transport Safety Victoria.  They always maintain to achieve  excellence and continues to work hard to maintain that high level. Timber Tramway is located at the old Alexandra Railway Station in Station Street, Alexandra.  Which is a 2 hour drive north-east of Melbourne along the scenic Maroondah Highway via Healesville or, if you prefer, the equally scenic alternative Melba Highway, via Yarra Glen and Yea. Stop off and enjoy one of the many wineries in the district or treat the kids to a picnic in the forest at one of the well-maintained picnic grounds along any of these routes.
